The students of Kyonggi Elementary school worked hard this April by preparing for the fifth annual Test of English by Kyonggi (TEK). The third, fourth, fifth, and sixth graders all read three books chosen specifically for their grade. The books ranged from classic fiction books to books about adventure, and finally, books about certain time periods like ancient Greece and Rome.
The test this year was slightly different. While the students have had to read books in the past and answer questions about them, and a film they watched. This year, there was no assigned film for them to watch. Instead, the test consisted of questions relating to the books as well as a new section where the students listened to audio recordings that were made by their teachers. These recordings included passages read from the books as well as dialogue that was recorded by their teachers.
The students were seen frequently reading their books during break times and all over the school. The students were motivated by the prizes. The prizes that were up for winning were gold, silver, and bronze certificates. After lots of rigorous studying and a great deal of effort on the students’ part, a total of 62 gold prizes, 102 silver prizes, and 51 bronze prizes were awarded.
