Anti-War Movements

Group 1 : Kim, MinJun(Luke) / Kim, TaeHo(Leo) / Park, SungYun(Eric)/ Park, JunHwan(Andrew) / Yi, YeonWoo(Yeonwoo) / Jeon, YoungJoon(Youngjoon)

Do you know what anti-war movements are? From the past to the present, many people protested and resisted wars. Today, we will introduce three famous anti-war movements.

First, there was the World War II anti-war movement. In all countries occupied by other countries, the resistance movement of World War II was carried out in various ways. These movements concealed crashed pilots. They also participated in non-cooperation and counter-information about the occupiers. Some brave people made militias to try to recapture their territories.

Second, there was the Vietnam War anti-war movement. The biggest protest of this movement was against the reunification of Vietnam. This protest took place all over the United States. The movement against the Vietnam War took place over many months.

Third, there is the Russian and Ukrainian anti-war movement. Many Russian people are against the war and protested to stop the war. There are a few examples of what Russian people did. First, they had an online signature campaign. Almost one million people signed it. Second, many Russian people held protests. Many patriotic people participated in the protests.

MSF (Doctors Without Borders) mitigates the risks that children face through comprehensive security management. It is financed by more than 4.5 million individual donors in order to help people. MSF provides independent and impartial medical humanitarian assistance to people who need it the most. It received the 1999 Nobel Peace Prize. MSF also works with thousands of health professionals, as well as logistic and administrative staff.

Here is an example of the way MSF can help. In Tshwane, South Africa, Doctors Without Borders from Korea helped citizens who didn’t have enough money. In one case, a boy’s life was at risk, but a doctor saved the boy’s life just in time. It was a relief that the geohydrologist implemented innovative techniques in this emergency.

We think Doctors Without Borders is important to the world. Many Doctors without Borders save lives. What do you think about Doctors Without Borders?

Climate Change Makes Earth Hot

Group 3 : Min, YuTae(Yutae) / So, JiHwan(James) / Lee, DongGyu(Aiden) / Cha, YuAn(Yuan) / Choi, JaeSeoung(Jason) / Huh, JaeWon(Jay)

We will talk about three parts of climate change, such as theory, seriousness, and the solution.

In the past, climate change was influenced by nature. But recently, humans have started to contribute to climate change. For example, greenhouse gasses are emitted by people. These are destroying the ozone layer. Also, due to climate change, the jet stream, which was originally supposed to be in the north, has descended. This could lead to more serious climate changes, such as extreme cold waves and heavy snow

Due to climate change, the temperature of the Earth is increasing and the weather is getting strange. This change made the Earth’s environment change and made it a difficult place to live.

There are many solutions to climate change. The first would be to plant and cultivate trees. There are ways to save the Earth by increasing the use of sustainable energy, such as wind and solar energy. By gradually reducing coal use, we can reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

 Save the Ozone

Group 1 : Kim, YuJun(Lucas) / Park, ChaeMan(Luke) / Lee, SeoHyung(Diego) / Lee, JoonWon(Joon) / Jung, SiHyo(Sean) / Joo, SungHa(Alex)

There is a day called “Ozone Day” and it is on September 16th. The ozone layer blocks ultraviolet rays from the sun, which are harmful to our body. Unfortunately, the ozone layer is rapidly being destroyed by humans.

The ozone layer is getting erased because of chlorofluorocarbons, which are made by our air conditioners, refrigerators, and other electronic devices. Also, natural ultraviolet rays from the sun destroy the ozone layer. Finally, the exhaust from rocket launches destroys the ozone layer. Humans have damaged the ozone layer since the 1800s. But what happens when the ozone layer is completely destroyed?

The ozone layer has a great impact on the ecosystem. If it gets destroyed, there will be a savage increase in ultraviolet rays, which are very harmful to our eyes and body. Also, global warming will speed up due to the destruction of the ozone layer. We have to protect the ozone layer.

Miss Emily Comes to Vote

Group 2 : Kang, SeoHee(Celine) / Kim, SeWon(Grace) / Kim, Hani(Hani) / Lee, AJin(Raina) / Jung, InSeo(Rachel) / Cho, HaEun(Charlotte)

Miss Emily is upset. She couldn’t understand why women don’t have the right to vote. The men would say that women need to care for their family, and the men could participate in politics. She was organizing a team to fight for their suffrage. They would get their rights back with this movement.

Today was the day for her fighters and her to fight for their suffrage. They had been preparing for this fight for a year. They went to the street and started to shout. The men ignored them at first, but then they started to listen to the women’s voices.

Finally, Emily and the other women got their suffrage. Today was the first day that women can vote. Emily was so excited and glad that women could also participate in politics. These days, we think it is obvious that women can vote, but it is the result of women who fought. We should be thankful for their sacrifice and respect those women.

UNICEF

UNICEF is the largest provider of educational support. They also help refugees and teach children. They’re a part of the United Nations.

First, UNICEF sets up refugee camps and protects children. They make camps for people who have lost their homes during a war and give them a clean place to sleep and rest. They teach children as well.

Next, UNICEF supports families who have lost their jobs. They give them the opportunity to take care of those with disabilities who are burdened by additional living expenses. Also, UNICEF is working with the community to launch a campaign to raise awareness around disability.

Lastly, over 600 million children worldwide are unable to attain minimum proficiency levels in reading, mathematics, and science. They can’t learn nor eat well. UNICEF works in 147 countries and provides a quality of learning and education in emergencies.

Without UNICEF, the children that live in impoverished countries don’t have enough education, and their futures will be dark.

Climate Movement

Group 4 : Gil, SiOn(Sion) / Kim, RoA(Roa) / Kim, JiWoo(Julie) / Baek, MinYeong(Elfleda) / Yoon, JiAh(Jiah) / Choi, JiAh(Gia)

Today, Earth has become full of trash. For example, Korea throws away 500,000 tons of trash. Also, there are 2.01 billion tons of trash. This trash is mostly plastic. Plastic needs 5,000 years to rot. These plastics also go to the sea, so the fish we eat have trash in their bodies. Also, only 9% of trash can be recycled.

If we keep hurting the Earth like this and climate change continues, it will warm our atmosphere. The whole North Pole will even be gone. Also, we will have warmer and more acidic oceans and higher sea levels. In addition, large changes in precipitation will happen. Some countries can sink because of higher sea levels, like Tuvalu, for example.

There are social movements to save the Earth, such as using reusable forks and using tumblers instead of plastic water bottles. Some people don’t even eat meat. There are more ways to save the Earth. We should help the people who are working in a social movement and save the Earth.

There are many non-governmental organizations in the world. Greenpeace is one of those environmental organizations.

Greenpeace is a non-governmental environmental organization that wants to protect Earth’s nature. They are all over the world. They are against all anti-environmental activities.

Greenpeace originally was a small group against the USA’s nuclear testing. Later, it was officially formed as Greenpeace in 1972. In the 1980’s, Greenpeace spread internationally. Their purpose became broader, from nuclear testing activism to every environmental problem. Greenpeace today is trying to protect the environment in many ways, such as educating students.

Greenpeace’s goals are to protect endangered animals, as well as combat toxic waste, chemical pollution, and deforestation. Their purpose is to protect the environment and deliver this idea to everyone.

Climate Change

Do you know about Climate Change? Climate Change is a long term change in the average weather patterns of global climates. As greenhouse gasses cause emissions they blanket global warming and cause climate change. Climate Change is happening because of the burning of fossil fuels, cutting down forests, and farming livestock.

Some examples of Climate Change are droughts which are becoming longer and becoming more extreme around the world. Tropical storms have become more severe due to warmer ocean water temperatures. There is less snowpack in mountain ranges and polar areas. Snow is melting faster. These threaten people’s lives by causing disease, air pollution, causing the sea levels to rise, and droughts that cause fruits and vegetables to dry, leading us to starvation and poor nutrition.

So what are the solutions to climate change? People have made many efforts to solve Climate Change, but these are just some of them. First, we can use renewable energy. Usually, when we use energy, it causes smoke. Thus we can use renewable energy, at the same time we can save energy. Second, we can use public transportation too. Public transportation can cause less pollution even if there are a lot of people. With these solutions we can save energy.

History of Children’s Rights

Group 3 : Kang, MinJoon(June) /  Park, InJoong(Skylar) /  Yoo, HaYul(Alex) / Lee, SeoJun(Luke) / Cha, YoonWoo(Ted) /  Han, DongGyu(David)

Nowadays, people think about children’s rights. How about in the past? Today, we’ll talk about the history of children’s rights.

In ancient times, nobody thought about special protections for children. But in the Middle Ages, children were considered small adults. In the 9th Century, the idea appeared in France to give children special protection including the progressive development of minor’s rights. In 1881, French laws included the right for children to be educated and protection in medical and social fields. In 1919, the League of Nations (later the UN) started to give some kind of importance to that concept and created a committee for child protection. In 1924, The League of Nations adopted the Geneva Declaration  on the Rights of the Child drafted by Eglantyne Jebb, founder of the Save the Children Fund.

In 1966, United Nations Member States promised to uphold equal rights, including education and protection for all children. These days children’s rights movements are a lot more developed than before, because of many rights revolutions. Also, with the development of children’s happiness, this allows people and nations to be more relaxed.

Climate Movement

Group 4 : Kim, GaIn(Inee) /  Bae, JeongEun(Joy) /  Yang, SeungYoo(Sally) / Jung, Ellie(Ellie) /  Chung, ChaeYun(Kelsy) /  Choi, YeJi(Yeji)

Have you ever heard of Earth’s climate? Climate means the long-term pattern of temperature. In the late 1800’s the Arctic was relatively cold. But now the arctic warmed about 0.7 degrees Celsius over the course of the 20th century. Over the last century, the average surface temperature of the earth has increased 1 degree Fahrenheit.

Nowadays, the Earth is getting hot. So polar bears are losing their home and the sea level is rising. According to KBS news, the sea level rose 10 cm during the last 30 years. Also the Alps glacier is melting. From 2022-2023 10% of the Alps glaciers have melted. In addition, the sea surface temperature has increased from the 1910’s-1940’s-1970’s-Present.

To save the Earth, we should stop cutting down trees. When we go to someplace nearby we should not use our car. At home we should eat less meat and dairy. We should install solar panels and use reusable bags. We need to save the Earth by practicing the above solutions.

Korea: The Democracy Movement

Group 2 : Kim, JeongYin(Emily) / Park, ChaeMin(Chaem) / Uh, SeoYeon(Allison) / Lee, SeungAh(Seungah) / Jeon, GaYul(Ariel) / Cha, SuGyeom(Tiffany)

On March 15th 1960, the Syngman Rhee government committed election fraud. The same day as the election results, lots of people resisted against the government in Masan. On April 19th, lots of students and people attended protests. As a result, Syngman Rhee resigned. This was a proud moment for Korea’s rising democracy.

After the April 19th revolution, a new government was made, so the citizens’ expectation towards democracy was huge. However, Park Chung Lee and the army staged a coup d’etat in 1961.

Jurgen Hinzpeter was a German reporter from a German news network and the only journalist to film the massacres during the Gwangju Uprising in South Korea. In Gwangju there is a memorial honoring Hinzpeter erected by the May 18th Memorial Foundation.

The June Democratic Movement happened in South Korea from June 10th to June 29th, 1987. When Park Jang Chul was tortured by police, the Chun Doo Hwan government tried to hide it. Citizens were frustrated and this progressed the movement. Finally, Roh Tae Woo accepted the ideas of the democracy movement.

Global Warming

Group 3 : Kim, SooHyun(Sean) / Sung, JooHo(Cornell) / An, HyunJun(Harry)/ Lee, DoHyeok(Paul) / Lee, ChanWoo(Jaden) / Lim, KyuHyun(Aiden)

Do you ever worry about global warming? I do. This problem could kill polar bears and humans. The reason for this disaster began from the Industrial Revolution.

The first Industrial Revolution began in the 18th century. Through the use of steam power, production increased a lot. The mechanized version achieved eight times the value in the same time. The use of steam power for industrial purposes was the greatest breakthrough for increasing human production.

The third Industrial Revolution began in the 20th century. Factories made more carbon dioxide than before, so the Earth heated up quicker. Today more carbon dioxide is made than before. The people had enough of carbon dioxide.

The fourth Industrial Revolution will begin in the future. The revolution increased the amount of climate change. Icebergs melt as fast as they can and the sea near cities rises higher. Also the heat causes wildfires to happen. The ecosystem disappears. The people can’t live. The Earth fried.

To conclude, the Industrial Revolution caused carbon dioxide that raised the temperature of Earth and caused global warming.

Women Are As Important As MenWomen Are As Important As Men

Have you ever heard about women’s suffrage movements? In South Korea, women’s rights weren’t ensured. But because of the movements, people’s thoughts began to change. In 1948, women began to gain legal rights such as the right to vote, drive, and to inherit properties. The movements started in 1959 and the feminist groups were established during the 1980’s to 1990’s that continue to this very day.

Presently women in South Korea are guaranteed all the legal rights that men have for women’s suffrage. There is International Women’s Day on March 8th, and people speak up for women’s fundraising for women in need and more.

Looking towards the future, the women’s suffrage movement will continue to play a crucial role in advancing the rights and opportunities of women globally. It is essential to ensure that women from all backgrounds have equal access to education, healthcare, and political representation. By building on the progress made by suffragettes of the past, future generations of women can create a more equitable and inclusive society for all.
