Recapping the 2024 Spelling Bee Competition
Since 2021, Kyonggi Elementary School has hosted an annual spelling bee competition. This year, the event was open to all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students who wished to enter. Overall, 154 total students had the courage and confidence to participate in Kyonggi’s 4th annual Spelling Bee semi-final round.
Semi-Final Round
In preparation, 3rd grade participants received a word list of 250 words to remember. A word list of 300 words was given to the 4th grade participants, and the 5th grade participants faced the daunting challenge of studying a list of 350 words. In the end, the semi-final round would consist of 50 words from each grade’s respective list. Only the students with the top 10-11 scores in each grade advanced to the final round.
Final Round
The final round added 50 words to the list for each grade. Any finalist who could last at least 5 rounds would earn a bronze medal. Silver medals would be awarded for surviving at least 10 rounds, and students would need to spell words correctly in all 15 rounds to earn a coveted gold medal. This year, 7, 9, and 4 contestants from grades 3, 4, and 5 respectively won gold medals! They must have been super busy bees learning all those words!
