(No.33) New English Teacher “Jana Cilliers”

Dear students, parents, and colleagues.

My name is Jana Cilliers and I am proud to call myself the new teacher at Kyonggi Elementary School. I’m South African, and was born and raised on a farm in a beautiful part of the country called the Karoo. The Karoo is a large semi-desert region, and to me, one of the most beautiful places in the world. After graduating school, I spent 15 years in the stunning city of Cape Town until I made the best decision of my life; moving to South Korea. I am having the absolute best time exploring and learning everything South Korea has to offer. I am infatuated with all the food, history, people and culture.

I absolutely love being a teacher! Coming to school and spending time with my students makes me so happy. I look forward to every day as I get to learn so much from them and I cherish all the conversations we have. The students are so smart, creative, and hilarious! I hope my time here at Kyonggi will inspire my students to look at the world from a different perspective and embrace the creative side of learning.

Apart from teaching, I have many interests, and I aim to always try something new. Here are a few top things I just can’t stop talking or thinking about: crocheting, the environment, swimming in the sea, planning my next trip, eating/cooking food, my friends, walking, chickens, craft projects, fashion, farming, art, dogs, reading, unsolved mysteries, music… If you see me at school, come say hi, and tell me about your interests.

I look forward to meeting you and making this the best year ever!
